Woodhouse College will endeavour to provide you with a broad and challenging educational experience that meets your individual needs and aspirations.
Advanced Level and Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS) Courses
-
In your first year at the College (Year 12) we expect that you will choose to study between 3 and 5 AS subjects. Both the choice and the number of subjects you study will depend upon your GCSE results and your HE/Career intentions. The AS represents the first year of the A-level qualification and therefore it is important that you are prepared to study at least 3 of your AS subjects over 2 years in order to achieve an A-level qualification.
-
In the second year (Year 13) we expect the majority of you will study 3 or 4 subjects at A2. All A2 subject choices must previously have been studied at AS. It is possible that some of you may opt to take another AS subject in addition to your A2 programme, for example Critical Thinking.
At the end of your first year you will take the AS exam in each of the subjects you have been studying. Progression onto the A2 part of the subject will be dependent upon passing the AS level.
Applied A-level Courses
- An Applied A-level is a 2-year course equivalent to 2 A-level courses. You may have the opportunity to take an additional A-level or AS subject alongside.
- A special programme of extension courses will be available if you do not have the necessary GCSE qualifications to take an additional AS. These will probably include:
- AS in either Business or ICT
- Critical Thinking (Year13)
- GCSE re-take in either English or Maths
- Key Skills in Communication, IT and Number
Intermediate Course in Business and ICT
- This is a 1-year course. You will take two BTEC First Certificate courses: one in Business and one in ICT for Practitioners. Each of these is worth the same as two GCSEs A*-C.
