Woodhouse College Student Support Office operates purely for the support of students. Lisa Fry, Richie Dempsey and Jo Lawrence are available during break and lunch. You can visit us if you have any questions about things like EMA or financial assistance, health and welfare issues, sexual health or any general queries about life at College. As a student you are entitled to the best quality of support available therefore Woodhouse not only supports you academically but also with more personal issues. If you need to talk to someone about a personal or confidential matter then there are several options available to you:
You can:
- Speak to your Personal Tutor at the end of registration when no-one is around.
- Find your Senior Tutor (timetables are pinned outside the Senior Tutor offices), email them or leave a note in their tray by the staffroom saying that you would like to speak to them confidentially.
- Look on the Student Support website on Woodle. It has useful links to external agencies that provide up-to-date information and advice on particular issues that may affect young people. Just log on to Woodle and click on Student Support. We have a confidential email service as well.
- Come and see Lisa Fry in the Student Support Office. If she is not there, hang around, she is probably around the building somewhere. Alternatively you can contact her via telephone or email. Details are outside on the door. You can talk to her in confidence and she will be able to refer you to someone who can support you.
- Contact the College Counsellors. The College Counsellors are independent of the College and work for Barnet Community Counselling. They come in to College on Mondays. The service is totally confidential and College staff have no involvement in these sessions. Contact details are displayed in the Student Diary, on Woodle under Student Support and in leaflets on various notice boards around the College including tutor group notice boards.
- Visit 331 Young People’s Centre @ 34/36 Woodhouse Road, N12 0RG or ring them on 020 8359 3100 . It is a drop-in centre available to young people who are experiencing personal problems etc. You can speak to trained Counsellors and there are other services available also, such as advice about sexual health, emergency contraception, advice on legal issues and housing. You don’t need an appointment just drop-in between 10 - 5 Monday - Friday.
If you don’t feel able to share your feelings or anxieties with any of the above, please try not to keep it to yourself – remember a problem shared is a problem halved. The hardest step is telling someone and it really is never as bad as you think it will be. There are lots of agencies and help lines available for young people that give advice and information and if you don’t want to speak to someone face-to-face in the first instance just click on to the Student Support page on Woodle for more details.
