Welcome to Woodhouse College From the Principal - Keith Murdoch
We are a small Sixth Form College situated in Barnet, North London, providing full-time education for students aged 16-19 years. As part of the Further Education sector we are directly funded by the Government and open to application from anyone who lives within travelling distance. We see ourselves as a local community college, particularly in our relationship with our two Partner Schools – The Compton and Friern Barnet – whose students get priority of entry, and occupy approximately one quarter of our places.
In many ways the College is a special place. With over 1130 students, we maintain a supportive, friendly atmosphere where people know each other and operate in a climate of mutual respect. There is a strong emphasis on self-discipline and old-fashioned courtesy. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and we celebrate the diversity of different minority ethnic origins.

We offer thirty subjects at GCE Advanced level and two Applied A-level courses (Business Studies and I.T.). Our examination results are consistently excellent, putting us in the top two or three high-achieving colleges in the country. In summer 2010 our pass-rate was 98.8% with just under 68% at Grades A and B.
Nevertheless, our pride is in the consistently positive ‘value added’ scores our students achieve – the measure that shows an improvement in an individual’s A Level result compared to their predicted achievement based on GCSE results. At Woodhouse, students do better than they might be expected to do!
Our emphasis, however, is not just on examination results. We provide a rounded educational experience which includes extra-curricular activities like music, drama, volunteering and sport. Our tutorial system is extensive and effective : personal and academic problems are identified early and support given. We have a full-time teacher dedicated to the provision of special educational needs and learner support.

The success of the College was celebrated in our January 2007 Ofsted Inspection Report, which you can access from this site. We were given Grade 1 – Outstanding – in all 5 areas and were awarded 'Designated Outstanding Status'. In 2003 the College was awarded Beacon Status following an excellent Ofsted Inspection when six areas out of eight were given Grade 1.
We maintain our high standards by having high expectations of ourselves and of our students. Most of our students go on to University. Our aim is to have provided them with a strong foundation that they will remember throughout their lives.
