Welcome to Woodhouse College
We are a specialist Sixth Form College situated in North Finchley, North London, providing full-tim
e education for students aged 16-18 years. We are state funded and open to application from anyone who lives within travelling distance. Students from our two Partner Schools – The Compton and Friern Barnet – have priority of entry, and they occupy approximately 15% of our places.
In many ways the College is a special place. With around 1200 students, we maintain a supportive, friendly atmosphere where people know each other and operate in a climate of mutual respect. There is a strong emphasis on self-discipline and old-fashioned courtesy. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and over 120 different schools across North London; they mix well together and are proud to be Woodhouse students. They make friends for life.
We offer thirty subjects at A-level, which can be studied in almost any combination. Our exam results are consistently excellent, putting us in the top two or three high-achieving colleges in the country. In summer 2012 our pass-rate was 98.7% with over 69.1% at grades A* - B.
We pride ourselves that students meet their potential. This is measured through "value added" statistics that compare a student's A Level result with their GCSE results. At Woodhouse, students do better than they might be expected to do on average elsewhere.
Our emphasis, however, is not just on exam results. We provide a rounded educational experience which includes extra-curricular activities like music, drama, volunteering, sport, trips and a whole host of other opportunities. Our tutorial system is extensive and effective: personal and academic problems are identified early and support given; and our retention is very good - we lose hardly any students.
The success of the College was celebrated in our January 2007 Ofsted Inspection Report. We were given Grade 1 – Outstanding – in all 5 areas and were awarded Outstanding' Status. At our previous inspection in 2003, the College was awarded Beacon Status.
We maintain our high standards by having high expectations of ourselves and of our students. Most of our students go on to University. Our aim is to have provided them with a strong foundation that they will remember throughout their lives.
