Course requirements

Minimum criteria for entry 2017
 
  •  At least a GCSE Grade 6 in English language and Grade 5 in mathematics are required for all courses.
  • A or B grades in subjects needed for your particular programme, as specified in the prospectus and below. 
  • An average GCSE score as follows 
            Three A level courses:  at least 6.0
            Four A level courses:    at least 7.0
 
            (Average GCSE Score based on A*=8, A=7, B=6, C=5, etc)
 
Note that only GCSE/IGCSE courses count towards the average score, not other types of qualification.
 
These are minimum requirements.
 
We do not guarantee to offer a place to students who meet these criteria.
 
Additional grades required for each subject are described below.
Further detail can be found in the prospectus and in the course pages of this website. All requirements are subject to amendment, and requirements issued at the time of offer are final.
 
Accounting
Grade 6 in GCSE maths
 
Art & design
Grade B in GCSE art
 
Biology
Grades ABB in GCSE sciences. Grades AB accepted if double science taken. Grade 6 in GCSE maths
 
Business studies
Grade 6 in GCSE maths. Business studies cannot be taken in conjunction with economics
 
Chemistry
Grades ABB in GCSE sciences. Grades AB accepted if double science taken. Grade 6 in GCSE maths
 
Classical civilisation
Grade 6 in GCSE English literature
 
Computer science
Grade B in GCSE computer science and grade 6 in GCSE maths or grade 7 in GCSE maths if no computer science is taken
 
Dance
Grade B in GCSE dance.If GCSE dance not studied, you’ll need a background in formal dance training and will be required to take part in a short audition.
 
Drama & theatre studies
Grade B in GCSE drama if taken. If not taken at GCSE, students must have performance experience and Grade 6 in GCSE English literature
 
Economics
Grade 6 in GCSE maths. Economics cannot be taken in conjunction with business studies
 
English language
Grade 6 in both GCSE English language and English literature
 
English literature
Grade 6 in both GCSE English literature and English language
 
French
Grade B in GCSE French
 
Further maths
Grade 8 or 9 in GCSE mathematics
 
Geography
Grade B in GCSE geography

2 grade Bs in an essay subject such as GCSE English, history or religious studies

Music Technology
B in GCSE music is essential; basic keyboard skills (Grade 2/3) and Grade 5 theory are desirable
 
Philosophy
Grade 6 in GCSE English literature
 
Physical education
Regular recognised club participant as a minimum in one sport from the approved OCR list, or coaching level 1 and coaching on a regular basis at a recognised club
 
Physics
Grades ABB in GCSE sciences (A in physics) or AB if double science taken. Grade 7 in GCSE mathematics
 
Psychology
Grade 6 in GCSE maths and grade B in at least one GCSE science subject
 
Religious studies
Grade 6 in GCSE English literature
