Principal's Welcome
It is a pleasure to welcome you to our website. I hope you get a sense of who we are and what makes our community so special. I joined Woodhouse as Principal in April 2021 and I often say I feel like I have the best job in education!
Our students are wonderful. They approach their learning with a high level of intellectual rigour, a cool geekiness and joy for learning. We have a great ethos of preparing students for university and providing a safe stepping stone to university. But alongside that we are a space where students can grow and express themselves, to become young adults and have agency.
"We believe that a true education involves looking beyond A levels. They are, of course, important but developing and nurturing passions and interests outside of them is important too."
Agency is a massive part of my educational philosophy. There’s the freedom that academic success gives you in terms of doors being opened but true agency comes from being able to make decisions for yourself to live a happy and fulfilled life. I think what Woodhouse does incredibly well is give students the opportunities to make those decisions. We are a space where students can grow and learn from mistakes. When our students go on to university, they are really well prepared because they’ve had the chance to decide how they learn, what they prioritise and what they are really passionate about.
The College has a commitment to educating the whole person in the widest possible sense. All students engage with a Skills to Thrive programme, participate in a social action project and almost all take part in Woodhouse Plus.
Our mission statement talks about us offering a transformational education experience. Our staff are committed to this. I hope if you visit us you will see this alongside a nurturing ethos, warmth and joy.
