Admissions Policy

Woodhouse College is a sixth form institution for students who are progressing directly from Year 11.

Application Window

The College accepts applications during a set admissions period each year, typically opening in October and closing in January. Specific dates are published annually on our website.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must:

  • Meet the minimum entry grades for their chosen A level subjects.
  • Achieve the required average grade across their best eight GCSEs, IGCSEs, O Levels, or International Baccalaureate (IB MYP) subjects, all taken in a single exam sitting.

We will only accept the following qualification combinations:

  • Eight or more full GCSEs, IGCSEs, O Levels or IB MYP subjects.
  • Seven full GCSEs, IGCSEs, O Levels or IB MYP subjects plus one BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) or CNAT (Cambridge National qualification) Level 1 & 2.

Offers are then made to eligible applicants according to the following list of priorities:

  1. Looked after children Formal documentation must be received from your Local Authority, Adoption Agency, or similar official body, to confirm your LAC status.
  2. Applicants with an Educational Health & Care Plan (EHCP) A copy of your official EHCP  - A formal consultation must be received from the applicant’s local authority. 
  3. Children of current staff Current staff siblings will not be considered.
  4. Applicants who attend one of the College’s partner schools The Archer Academy or Friern Barnet School
  5. All other eligible applicants

Applicants from categories 1-4 will usually be offered a place if their predicted grades suggest they will meet our minimum entry grade criteria and the individual subject grade requirements, as published on the website. 


Applicants in priority group 5 will be offered places based on the following:

  • Predicted grades – The College is more likely to offer a place where predicted grades are high.
  • Subject combinations – The College will offer places in such a way to fill all courses as efficiently as possible.
  • Distance from College – Applicants living more than 60 minutes away by public transport (according to the TFL website Plan a journey - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk) are less likely to be offered a place.

Oversubscription

When the number of applicants exceeds available places, the entry criteria listed above is used to determine offers.

Age of applicants

We only accept applicants who are aged 17 or under and who are taking their GCSEs, IGCSEs, O Levels, or IB MYP examinations for the first time, progressing directly from Year 11.

Reference from school

An applicant with a reference suggesting poor behaviour or poor attendance is unlikely to be offered a place.  

Providing Accurate Information 

All information provided during the application and enrolment process must be accurate and truthful. This includes declared examination grades.

If any part of an application is found to be false or misleading, the offer will be withdrawn, and the applicant may be disqualified from applying in the future.

Eligible Applicants

The College will only offer places to applicants eligible for ESFA funding. Eligibility criteria are set nationally and may vary from year to year. Evidence of eligibility, such as passports, will be required at enrolment.

The College will make every reasonable effort to comply with the Equality Act of 2010, including making provision, where possible, to accommodate prospective applicants with specific needs.

SEND POLICY
