Drama students enjoy a-Mays-ing theatre trip

Dated: 9 June 2023

Students and staff with actor Daniel Mays

This week, 35 of our Year 12 A level Drama and Theatre students were fortunate enough to take a trip to see Guys and Dolls at The Bridge Theatre.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the production is a feat of innovative staging. The Bridge’s auditorium has been radically rearranged for a promenading audience, with a mobile stage continually remaking itself, its platforms rising up to reveal New York City’s bars, clubs and street corners. This movement captures the spirit of Damon Runyon’s original story and the unceasing bustle of his “Runyonland”.

Woodhouse drama student Dea told us "I loved the immersive aspect. The actors really bought it to life."

Head of Drama at Woodhouse, Helen Mcgrath said "Everyone absolutely loved the show, and we even got a photo with actor Daniel Mays who plays Nathan Detroit in the production."

Woodhouse drama took to the stage at the end of the performance...

Drama students Zak and Mckenzie really got into the spirit of the show and arrived dressed accordingly...

Zak told us what he thought of the show. "I loved it. I thought is was fabulous.'"

McKenzie agreed, "It was really fun, I felt like I was actually there"

"I really like how camp it was. It was fun" student Rufus commented, and classmate Avin said "I really liked the interaction."

Woodhouse students are lucky to live in North London with such easy access to the West End and get the chance to see many live theatre productions during their A level course, to help inform and inspire their studies.
