Oxbridge hopefuls visit Oxford Uni

Dated: 15 November 2018

Earlier this term, 34 of our hopeful Oxbridge students attended a trip to Oxford University to help with their preparation for entrance tests and possible looming interviews.

Woodhouse student Leena Abedin reported back to us...

"Upon arriving we were given an introduction by Ana Hastoy, the School’s Liason Officer at Christchurch college, who had organised for PhD students in various subjects to help students with mini interview workshops.

We were then split into groups of the subject we were applying for and we were given some time to talk with a teacher of that subject who was involved in the interview process. This was helpful as it was a direct insight into the interviewer thought process and gave me a better understanding of what actually sitting in an interview would feel like.

We were then given lunch (a three-course meal in their extravagant dining hall) and the actual Oxford students shuffled in towards the end looking at us with curiosity.

The second part of the day  involved Dr Ana Hastoy herself providing advice on how to approach questions in entrance tests. She provided an interactive workshop with example questions and asked students to explain the answers they chose.

Finally, some Oxford students answered questions from us and then gave us a tour of the grounds of Christchurch College.

It was a lovely experience and everyone made me feel welcome and that applying to Oxford wasn’t such a terrifying thing to take on."
