Oxbridge academy pays dividends with 26 offers
Dated:
21 February 2023
Earlier this month, as 26 of our U6 students found out that they had done enough to secure an offer from Oxford or Cambridge, another 120 L6 students took tours at the prestigious campuses as they prepared to apply - via our Oxbridge Academy.
Woodhouse Principal Sugra Alibhai said “I’m so pleased for our students with offers, this is a testament to the hard work that they have put in during the past year and I am proud of their accomplishment. Now we will help them ensure that they get the grades they need to move forward, and I am confident that they will."
At Woodhouse, we give our higher achieving students every chance of gaining a place at Oxford or Cambridge University. Our principal personally oversees our support system and our programme starts a year before applications take place. We organise and oversee trips, visiting speakers and summer schools as part of a comprehensive programme that mostly focuses on specific subject areas. We bring in admission tutors from Oxford and Cambridge and invite students and parents to come and find out more about the whole process and give them the chance to ask questions.
This term we took 80 students to visit Oxford and another 40 to Cambridge. There they were given tours by the local students, got to sit in on workshops and lectures, and of course try out the cuisine in the incredibly impressive dining halls.
We had some great feedback from students that visited Oxford recently…
“I loved all the information given by the tutors and the Students. It was enjoyable to know more about their courses, and it was evident that they were incredibly passionate about their own degree, a genuine true love for their subjects!"
Giulia
"I enjoyed attending the tutorial on detective fiction as I thought it was very interesting and well presented. It was also fun to communicate with the students at Oxford and getting an idea of what life as a student at Oxford was like."
Dea
"I loved getting the talk about Mars, it was really well presented and so interesting to see what research and action is being taken on the planet, and also getting to talk to the students, my favourite part was getting to eat in the dining hall, it seemed very iconic to the Oxford experience!"
Ethan
"I absolutely enjoyed the lecture on detective fiction and was fascinated by it. It was really interesting to hear the students’ thoughts about Oxford. The trip made me become more inspired to delve into my A level subjects in detail."
Harini
"The trip was very enjoyable and educational. Before the trip, all I had was some knowledge about the courses they provide but since then, thanks to the staff and students at Christ Church and Mr Hassan, I now have much more knowledge on the history of Christ Church as well as the many opportunities available."
Teesha
Woodhouse Vice Principal Alex Christodoulou, who accompanied students on one of the trips told us "We had such an inspiring day spent at Christ Church College, Oxford where we met some humanities tutors and students - including a Woodhouse alumni - and had a fabulous lunch in the great hall.”
