Art students visit Royal Academy

Dated: 1 August 2017

Each year, our A level art students visit the Royal Academy at least once - to see the annual summer exhibition. Some of our students reported back on what inspired them when they visited at the end of June.

“An inspiring variety of art” said student Emre Gilgil...

The Summer Exhibition is an open art exhibition held annually by the Royal Academy in Burlington House, Piccadilly in central London, during the summer months of June, July, and August. It includes paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, architectural designs and models, and is the largest and most popular open exhibition in the UK.

When the Royal Academy was founded in 1768 one of its key objectives was to establish an annual exhibition, open to all artists of merit, which could be visited by the public. The first Summer Exhibition took place in 1769; it has been held every year since without exception.

“There were very varied artworks in terms of theme, concept, materials and composition. Useful for gaining inspiration for future works and ideas” said student Aya Tuama

“A perfect springboard for ideas for my personal art project” agreed Max Greenhalgh.

...And we look forward to seeing those inspired ideas at next year's Woodhouse Summer Exhibition...
