On the 15th January 2019 students from across the country met to debate global political themes at the 4th Biennial Model United Nations Conference held at Woodhouse College.
Around 150 students spent months preparing for the conference, addressing subjects such as the militarisation of space, the situation in Yemen and Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international norms.
The conference was an enormous success. After hours of diplomatic wrangling leading to the final General Assembly session, students debated and deliberated on a number of UN resolutions they had drafted over the weekend.
Commenting on the conference, Woodhouse Student and one of the chairs Raman Newton who hopes to study History and Politics after being accepted to Cambridge said, "MUN was an amazing opportunity and I am so pleased I got involved and played an active role as Chair of the Human Rights Council. I really enjoyed all the debates especially the one on transgender rights as it was very interesting to hear the viewpoints from different areas of the world on such a topical issue, as well as the General Assembly where we could hear all the resolutions from the different councils debated”.
The conference takes place every two years and is organised by the Woodhouse College Politics Department.
