Students discover gold at British Physics Olympiad

Dated: 8 April 2019

Louis, David and Sayeed with Head of Physics at Woodhouse, Mr Makepeace
Congratulations to three of our A level physics students for scoring so highly at the recent British Physics Olympiad.
The Olympiad is an annual competition run by Oxford University that aims to encourage A level physics students to apply their subject knowledge to higher level problem solving.
There is a preliminary round from which six students were selected to take part in the Olympiad itself. After a marathon exam of two hours and fifty minutes two students, David Irvine and Louis Velati, achieved a gold and one, Sayeed Ahmed, a silver medal. Both gold medallists were in the top 10% of candidates.
All three plan to go onto study physics at a university: Louis at Manchester University and both David and Sayeed are hoping to take Natural Science at Cambridge.
