The Woodhouse Senior Maths Team challengers - Mufid, Alexis, Bassil and Arjun
The annual Senior Maths Challenge (SMC) is back and well deserved congratulations to all of our mathematicians who achieved some fantastic results.
The challenge is organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and is open to students who are in Year 13 (aged 18) or below. The paper has twenty-five multiple choice questions. A correct answer is worth 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted from a starting total of 25 for an incorrect answer. This gives a score between 0 and 125 marks. Nationally, the 1000 highest scorers are invited to compete in the British Mathematical Olympiad and the next 2000 highest scorers are invited to sit the Senior Kangaroo.
Our students did incredibly well and chalked up 12 gold, 30 silver and 45 bronze awards.
11 of our golds qualified to compete in the next round Senior Kangaroo.
Our top scoring Woodhouse student Arjun Nanning Ramamurthy will be competing in the British Mathematical Olympiad.
Our gold medallists are: Arjun Nanning Ramamurthy, Alexis Tzelilis, Shayan Sadjady, Bassil Alaeddin, Jude Goulding, Michaela Miedziolka, Reuben Oakley-Brown, Mufid Morshed, Kieran Forrester, Yaqoob Maniar, Joshua Rose and Derome Roinson.
Our four top mathematicians Arjun Nanning Ramamurthy, Alexis Tzelilis, Bassil Alaeddin and Mufid Morshed (pictured) represented Woodhouse College at the Senior Maths Team Challenge on Monday 18th November. This was an intensive national competition which combines mathematical, communication and teamwork skills.
Our group worked very hard during the last few days and managed to achieve 5th place out of 31 schools.
Congratulations again to all involved and the best of luck with the next rounds of the competition.
