Woodhouse women are Career Ready

Dated: 16 March 2016

Last Friday, all of the Woodhouse girls on the Career Ready scheme took part in an event by Olswang (an international law firm based in Holborn).  Dacia Rochester-Martin reported back to us...

"This event was only for the Career Ready girls due to it being in aid of International Women's Day (March 9th).

During the event we were sat on tables with other girls from other schools and colleges in London. We were then joined by successful women who have very established careers.

We networked with the new girls we had met and discussed with the business women what they do as a current career and previous jobs and careers they had pursued, as well as gaining useful advice from these ladies as well.

One major thing that stuck with me is when one of the women said that 'we have two ears and one mouth, and we should use them in that proportion'. This was a new piece of advice for me as I find that you are usually encouraged to be talkative, ask questions and be confident when approaching an opportunity. This same woman also said that 'shyness is okay' and that 'the loud ones aren't always the ones to get the opportunities'. Which I believe is a good piece of advice for those who are shy and are having a hard time with being as confident as some others are.

I really enjoyed the event and think it was very useful for helping me set a path for my future."

This event is just one of many our Career Ready students will experience over the next year. Our business Career Ready members will receive one-to-one mentoring from professionals, guest lectures, work experience and internships, as well as trips to many businesses.
